In the Medieval poem, Beowulf, Unferth is the son of Ecglaf who slew his brother. Unferth gave Beowulf an unreliable sword, though it is debatable whether it an intentional attempt to put Beowulf in danger, or he unknowingly gave Beowulf the defective sword out of good intention.
