Bitterness can refer to the taste of sour food, or it can refer to the emotion of resentment. On April 6, 2008, Barack Obama stated that when small-town Americans lose their jobs they become bitter and "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who arenât like them or anti-immigration sentiment or anti-trade sentiment."[1]
