Richard Widmark (1914-2008) was an Academy Award nominated American actor. Born in Minnesota in 1914, he pursued an interest in acting during his secondary education. Widmark landed his first role in Kiss of Death (1947) for which he received an Academy Award nomination but did not win. Like Sterling Hayden, Widmark was well known for his roles in many westerns and film noir. Many of his other famous films include Night and the City, Pickup on South Street, Cheyenne Autumn, and Sergio Leone’s epic How the West was Won. Widmark died in 2008 at the age of 93.[1]
