The new version added a number of new features to [[SimCity]].  Design-wise, players could view the landscape from multiple perspectives, as opposed to the singular overhead view of the original game.  With the allowance of new views, the game added different landscape elevations, as well as an underground level giving players the ability to add water pipes and [[subways]].  Players were given more building options, adding [[Hospitals]], [[Libraries]], [[Prisons]], and [[Zoos]].  Additional transportation facilities were also included (bus and train depots).  Lastly, power options for the "city" were expanded to include wind turbines, hydroelectric plants, and satellite microwave stations.  Financing for the player was expanded beyond the city-wide tax used in the original.  The game allowed players to set separate tax-rates for residential, commercial, and industrial zones.

Future versions of the game used SimCity 2000 as a basis, including [[SimCopter]] and [[Streets of SimCity]].
