Sammy Davis, Jr. was born in the Harlem section of New York City on December 8, 1925. While starting as a child dancer, he moved on to singing and became an accomplished actor.
His appearance in the Broadway show “Mr. Wonderful” in 1956 and “Golden Boy” in 1964, won him a Tony nomination for Best Actor In A Musical. His acting career also included dozens of films including “Oceans Eleven” with Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.
Sammy’s first appearance on the Hit Parade began in 1954 with "Hey There" and in 1955 with “Love Me Or Leave Me” followed by “Something’s Gotta Give”, “That Old Black Magic”, “What Kind Of Fool Am I”, “The Shelter Of Your Arms”, “I’ve Gotta Be Me” and in 1972 his chart topper “Candy Man”.
Sammy Davis Jr. died of throat cancer on May 16, 1990 at 64 years of age.
