Chip

Chips are a traditional British working-class method of preparing potatoes. The potatos are peeled and sliced, generally into finger-sized slivers, and deep fried in lard or oil.

This is either done at home, in a special chip-pan, or often the chips are purchased from a chip shop, a common fixture in any British town, and often the centre of the local community.

Fish and chips is a common meal, though chip shops will also sell pie and chips, sausage and chips, deep-fried Mars bars, and pickled eggs. Common accompaniments are mushy peas, gravy or curry sauce.

French Fries are an imitation of chips made with reconstituted potato pulp.

Americans use the word "chips" to refer to potato crisps.
