He began a relationship with Brigitte, his (married) teacher in high school, once he turned 18 (the French age of majority). His parents attempted to end the relationship by sending him away for his final year of school, but the two reconnected and married after her divorce from her first husband (and father of her three children) was final. The couple have no children of their own.
