| − | A '''swing district''' is a legislative district that can be won by a Republican or a Democrat, based on voters' party registration or past election outcomes. This type of district is in contrast with a "[[safe district]]" for which, typically due to [[gerrymandering]], one side or the other is virtually guaranteed to win no matter what happens politically.
