The Aswan Dam in Egypt, built from 1960-1970, was a project of Gamal Abdel Nassar. The dam was built to prevent the Nile River from flooding and to generate electricity. The dam's waters drive one of the world's largest hydroelectric generating stations and are used to irrigate over 1 million acres of farmland.[1]
