Cyril Smith (1928-2010) was a British pedophile who also worked as a politician. He targeted vulnerable young boys in care homes, with the youngest being 8 years old. The sexual predator was described in 2010 by then Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg as "a beacon" of the party.[1]
Numerous attempts to hold Smith accountable for the complaints made against him were blocked.
