Romania is a country in eastern Europe, situated between the Black Sea, the Carpathian Mountains and the River Danube. It shares land borders with Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia.
The population is approximately 22 million and the capital city is Bucharest. The Romanian language is unusual in Eastern Europe, being of Latin origin. Romanians and Italians can converse reasonably well, each using their own tongue. This may go some way to explaining the pro-western sentiment shared by much of the population.
