"A Modest Proposal" is a satirical pamphlet published in 1729 by Irish writer Jonathan Swift. It opens by discussing the plight of Irish tenants, then discusses how this plight can be assuaged by having the tenants sell their children to their English landlords for use as a new delicacy.
Swift maintains a stready logical argument throughout his "proposal" of this shocking expedient, which makes the satire all the more effective.
