As of 2024, several council areas cover the traditional county Dunbartonshire. It lends it name to two of them; East Dunbartonshire Council (which also covers parts of [[Lanarkshire]] and [[Stirlingshire]]) and [[West Dunbartonshire Council]]. The mountainous north-western portion of the county, including much of the western shore of Loch Lomond, is administered by [[Argyll and Bute Council]]. In the south-east of the county, Drumchapel, Knightswood, Netherton and Temple form suburban areas of the city of [[Glasgow]] (which is mainly in Lanarkshire) and are as such administered by [[Glasgow City Council]].
