Blue state refers to states in the USA that vote for Democrats in Presidential elections. They generally have secular-progressive views on homosexuality, abortion, and crime. They also do not believe as strongly in national defense (for example, the invasion of Iraq and the war on terrorism) as their counterparts in the red states.
