Hugo Sánchez Márquez (b. Mexico City 1958), is a Mexican former football soccer star. He has played for four European clubs, including Real Madrid. As a member of the Mexico national team, he participated in three World Cups. Now he is the head coach of the Mexican national team.
Hugo Sánchez was the only Mexican to feature in Pele's 125 Top Living Football Players List in 2004. Sanchez's achievements at home and abroad turned him into a national icon. No Mexican player before has made such a huge impression on the soccer world. Sánchez played twelve seasons in Spain and is the second highest goalscorer in the history of the Spanish mayor league.
As a player, Sánchez retired from soccer on May 29, 1997.
