Richard III

Richard III was the youngest child of Richard, Duke of York. His father died in what became known as the Wars of Roses, but his elder brother, Edward IV, won the throne from the weak Lancastrian King, Henry VI. He trained as a knight in his youth and helped Edward to overthrow a temporary deposition by the old king, Henry VI. He became Lord-Protctor of England, for Edward IV's son, Edward V. But before Edward could assume the throne, Richard declared him and his brother illegitimate and took the throne for himself. Richard did not rule for long, but was killed at the Battle of Bosworth by Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, who became King Henry VII.
