A service plan typically consists of a monthly base rate for access to the system and a fixed amount of service per period. For example, cell phone service for a specific company will cost a set amount per month. A more expensive plan would probably offer unlimited voice and text messaging service, and a certain amount of data transfer as well (or "unlimited" data service, but the transfer speed is throttled above a certain amount).
