An Alarmist, according to the dictionary is "A person who needlessly alarms or attempts to alarm others, as by inventing or spreading false or exaggerated rumors of impending danger or catastrophe."
In modern usage, such people usually fall under the following categories:
- Bloggers
- Global Warming enthusaists
- Certain Left-Wing and Right-Wing websites
- Nationalist governments which seek to gain the blind trust of the populist by way of inventing threats to national security. See Nazi and 1984.
