Hamid Karzai (born 1957) is the president of current Afghanistan. He was first installed by the American government in 2001, and would be elected to the office by the Afgan people in 2004. Nearly 60% of Afgans believe that President Karzai is leading the country in the right direction, and 86% of people believe that they are better off, or at least the same as in 2002, immediately after the Taliban government was toppled.[1]
