David Josiah Brewer (1837-1910) was an Associate Justice of the [[U.S. Supreme Court who served in that position from December 18, 1889 to March 28, 1910, when he died in office of a heart attack.
His father was Christian minister in Turkey when he was born, and Justice Brewer remained a devoted member of the Congregational Church who was active in missionary work. He was a prolific writer best known for his scholarly decision in defense of religion in the Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States.
