The Declaratory Act (March 18, 1766) was an act made by the British Parliament that stated that Britain had supreme control over the American Colonies. It was made directly after Parliament had repealed the Stamp Act. This act angered the colonists, and was one of the several reasons the colonists declared war on Britain.

:"The King's majesty … had, hath, and of right ought to have, full power to make laws and statutes of sufficient force and validity to bind the colonies and people of America, subjects of the crown of Great Britain, in all cases whatsoever." From the Declaratory Act.
