Pesach [Hebrew:פסח] often called Passover[1], is the Jewish holiday celebrating the biblical escape from Egypt.
The festival begins on the 14th of Nissan. In Israel there is one day festival [חג], five intermediate days [חול המועד] and the 7th day is also a holiday. In the diaspora, there are two day of festival, four intermediate days and another two days of festival.
Laws and Customs
- For the entire length of the festival, Jews refrain from eating leavened foods (חמץ).
- On the first night (in the diaspora, first two nights), a Seder is conducted.
