A popularity contest is a contest to see who is more popular. A lot of times in politics and other similar forums, they say "this is not a popularity contest" because it isn't. It doesn't matter how popular someone is (like Obama), it matters how good someone is (like McCain). Skills and intelligence don't make you popular, but they keep the world running. Leave the popularity for the beauty contests and pop stars, who don't have REAL jobs.
