Robert Creigh Deeds (born January 4, 1958) is a member of the Virginia Senate and the Democrat nominee for Governor of Virginia in the 2009 election. He unsuccessfully ran for Attorney General in 2005.
Creigh Deeds is strongly pro-choice on abortion, in the state legislature he voted for partial birth abortion, against a 24 hour waiting period, against the parental consent amendment and offered an emergency contraception access bill. "I am pro-choice...we have to keep abortion legal." [1]
Douglas Wilder, the former Democrat Governor of Virginia and the nations first African American governor, has withheld from endorsing Deeds, saying he has concerns over Deeds' stances on "financial stewardship", gun control and abortion. "It can't be just that we have to go along because he's a Democrat. That doesn't cut it for me...The question is leadership. Where is your mantle of leadership? I have not seen it."
