Silk is a soft cloth woven from the thread of the silkworm. Silk was so highly revered in China that it was called imperial cloth and bureaucrats from Bejing controlled every aspect of its production. Silk worms were often thought to contain a piece of the ancestors soul that would be transmitted into the silk.
