A spinoff article, seen as a subordinate part of a main article, treats an aspect which needs further explanation for the reader to understand the main article.
Wikipedia tends to resist spinoffs when their liberal contributors seek to maintain bias in articles. One way to resist a spinoff is to label it a "POV fork".
