Strikeout

In baseball, a strikeout occurs when the pitcher accrues three strikes on the batter. The third strike can not result from a foul ball unless a bunt was attempted. If the third strike is dropped by the catcher, the batter becomes a runner and is eligible to advance to first base subject to a force play at first. If the batter reaches first base before the forceout is made, an out is not recorded. Hence, it is possible for more than three strikeouts to occur in the same half inning.
