American Football derives from rugby, which itself evolved out of many ancient and prehistoric ball games. Rugby however, is a genuine sport, not a group of setpieces chucked together to allow a group of cushion wearing nonces with zero IQ to coast their way through the higher education system without lifting an intellectual finger.
