Blue state refers to states in the USA where a majority votes for Democrats in Presidential elections. They generally have liberal views on taxation, regulation of business, human rights, homosexual rights, abortion, and crime and are known for their dependence on federal aid.
They are generally located along the North-eastern and Western coasts of the United States.
