The '''Foodborne [[Disease]]s Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet)''' is the principal [[food]]borne [[disease]] component of th [[CDC]]'s [[Emerging Infections Program]] (EIP). FoodNet is a collaborative project of the CDC, nine EIP sites ([[California]], [[Colorado]], [[Connecticut]], [[Georgia]], [[New York]], [[Maryland]], [[Minnesota]], [[Oregon]], and [[Tennessee]]), the [[USDA]], and the [[FDA]]. The project consists of active surveillance for [[food]]borne [[disease]]s and related epidemiologic studies designed to help public health officials better understand the epidemiology of [[food]]borne [[disease]]s in the United States. FoodNet provides a network for responding to new and emerging [[food]]borne [[disease]]s of national importance, monitoring the burden of [[food]]borne [[disease]]s, and identifying the sources of specific [[food]]borne [[disease]]s.
