Its' full name is "Basque Fatherland and Liberty," and was founded in 1959 during the [[Franco]] dictatorship.  ETA is responsible for at least 900 killings, including political and law enforcement figures, across Spain.  Most occurred in the [[Basque]] region, however ETA is active in [[Madrid]] and [[Catalonia]] as well as other areas.

Now the ETA is much more weaker than before.  For this we must mostly thank the previous [[Conservative]] government of [[José María Aznar]]  

The U.S. State Department continues to place members of ETA on its watch lists.<ref>http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/06/193579.htm</ref> However, the ETA has become considerably weaker.  Credit is given to the [[Conservative]] government of [[José María Aznar]] for reducing the strength of ETA.
