Alan Greenspan (b. 1926) is an American economist who was Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board from 1987 to 2006, when he was succeeded by Ben Bernanke. Currently he works for John Paulson [1].
He has been blamed for mishandling the financial markets, thus facilitating the Financial Crisis of 2008. He confessed to Congress he never thought the crash could happen.
As a top advisor to President Ronald Reagan he led the successful 1983 refinancing of the Social Security system that put it on a sound financial basis for the next 75 years.
He is a close friend and follower of libertarian writer Ayn Rand.
