:The Torah commanded the Jews to read the Torah so the Jews have a cultural heritage of literacy. In addition, adversity/necessity both can be the mothers of invention. In addition, if you believe in a law giver, you are more likely to believe in an orderly universe with "natural laws".
:I also came up with a few other ideas about this matter. The Jews have had to flee various countries and I noticed that in the USA the immigrants are often more entrepreneurial than the native population. Also, if you endure some persecution (the Jews have had plenty of that), perhaps it causes many people to not engage in societal groupthink which might also help cause innovation.
