Bob Hope (b. May 29, 1903; d. July 27, 2003) was an American entertainer. He worked in film, television, on Broadway and as a comedian, dominating show business in the twentieth century. Hope was also an American patriot: he toured with the USO hundreds of times, entertaining the troops, boosting their morale and saluting their efforts. In 1996, Hope was recognized by Congress as the "first and only honorary veteran of the U.S. armed forces."[Citation Needed] He loved to make people laugh, and had a passion for sports--he was especially known as an avid golfer.
Early Life
Bob Hope was born Leslie Townes Hope in Eltham, England, the fifth of seven brothers. The family emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1908. [1]
