The Hebrew word "Almah", "עלמה" actually translates to a young, marriageable woman who is still under the protection of her family. So, the NRSV translators seem to actually be translating Isaiah 7:14 more accurately. But I'm no expert. [[User:NP|NP]]

:At the time KJV was produced, the idea of translating from the original languages was controversial. Translating from Hebrew meant relying on rabbis for linguistic aid. The educated elite of Europe used Latin, and the Vulgate was translated from Greek rather than from Hebrew. Both the Vulgate and the Septuagint use "virgin." So the Apostles seem to have regarded the Septuagint as scripture. The Masoretic text that NRSV uses was compiled around AD 700. The Septuagint is about a thousand years older.
