The count city of [[County Derry]], one of the six counties of [[Northern Ireland]].
Derry is reputed to have been founded by [[St Columba]] in 546. The town was named Derry (from the [[Gaelic]] for 'oak grove'). In 1613 the area was awarded to the city of [[London]] and renamed Londonderry. In 1689 it was beseiged by [[James II]] for 105 days before being relieved.
