It was founded August 1, 1927 during the Nanchang Uprising. This Army brutally suppressed unarmed, peaceful demonstrators during the [[Tiananmen Square massacre|Tiananmen Square protests of 1989] as well as loads of other massacres accross China during 1989 according to the book "The People's Republic of Amnesia" by journalist Lousia Lin.
