Blue state refers to states in the USA where a majority votes for Democrats in Presidential elections. They generally have progressive views on taxation, regulation of business, human rights, homosexuality[Citation Needed], abortion[Citation Needed], and crime[Citation Needed].
Blue States include the two most economically significant states, California and New York. They have a higher per-capita income and a higher level of post-secondary education.
