The International Association of Therapists & Medical Doctors (IAAT) is a strictly conservative nonprofit organization for physicians founded in 1986 and headquartered in Fort Lauderdale (for the U.S.) and Berlin (for other countries). As of January 2021, membership was approximately granted to 25,000 medical professionals. IAAT operates worldwide and serves primarily as a registry and point of contact for verifying the legal status of its members, as well as an information center for those looking for a conservative minded physician.[1]

Qualification checks

Since verifying licenses is a major problem in many countries due to language barriers and divergent legislations, IAAT is a reference organization to obtain reliable information about those doctors and therapists who are IAAT members. The IAAT is politically strictly conservative and exclusively advocates evidence-based medicine. It supports the concept of freedom of therapy and does not take any other position regarding general or professional controversies.

History

Founded by members of a small credentialing body in 1986, which was eventually itself taken over by the now established IAAT in 2019, the International Association of Therapists & Medical Doctors has rapidly evolved into a worldwide non-profit organization that, in an era of globalization, provides institutions with quick access to assess the academic qualifications of IAAT members, especially those from third world countries with weak bureaucracies. This is the main reason why IAAT membership, which has always been fee-free, is exceptionally difficult to achieve.[2]

Membership

The association accepts new members, but has some of the most strict admission criteria of any medical organization in the world. To become a member of IAAT, the following is required:[3]

  • The reference as a competent conservative physician by two IAAT members in good standing who have been members of the association for at least ten years.
  • The original or a certified copy of the birth certificate, passport, university diplomas, license to practice medicine and other documents during the admission process.
  • A personally written letter explaining why the candidate wishes to become a member.
  • An interview with senior board members.
  • A letter of recommendation from the applicant's current employer and at least one previous employer.

Hate crimes against IAAT

IAAT is strictly conservative politically and committed to evidence-based medicine.[4] It supports the idea of freedom of therapy and takes conservative positions on general or professional policy controversies. The organization is regularly the victim of smear campaigns because of its political orientation and its exclusivity.
