On September 7, 1986, the then President suffered a terrorist attack perpetrated by the Manuel Rodriguez Front (FMR) in the Achupallas sector, Cajón del Maipo, when the motorcade in which he was traveling from his resting residence was attacked with rockets and machine guns. Pinochet suffered minor injuries to his left hand, but five of his escorts were killed.
