In December 2016, while Minister for Transport, Yousaf was was caught by police driving a friend's car without insurance. On 28 June 2018, after two years of failure as Transport Minister, Yousaf was appointed by dictator Sturgeon as Justice Secretary, being the only person in Europe to hold such a post without a law degree.<ref name="specscandals" />
