Hayek, an Austrian like Hitler, who lived in Austria contemporaneoulsy with Hitler, was an eyewitness to all the events. Hayek quotes Drucker, "fascism is the state reached after communsims has proven an illusion."  It is a warning to socieites that choose to go down the path of Socialism; Socialism destroys liberal thinking, and when the dreams of Marxism prove illusory, it is too late, and fascism is the result.
