Until the 1960s the word "English" was commonly used instead of "British." This annoyed the Scots and Irish so much that "English" is today more narrowly confined to the language and to the country of England (which comprises most of the British population).
The British media (other than is liberal, except for the conservative Daily Mail) is liberal, but likes like to poke fun of Americans and thus is more candidly critical of American liberals than the American media is. The Daily Mail is a fantastic source of breaking news overlooked or ignored by the American liberal media.
