The '''Spotted Hyena''' is an [[African]] [[mammal]] with long legs that eats meat. It hunts in packs with other Hyenae,and it is very social because it is laughing all the time. For this reason, it is often called The Laughing Hyena.

There are three types of hyenas: the spotted hyena, the brown hyena, and the striped hyena. All three types live in Africa, although they do not live together as packs. Although they look like felines or canines, they are actually in the ''Hyaenidae'' group.

Hyenae are predatory scavengers, meaning that they will sometimes feed on [[carrion]] left from a previous meal, instead of killing their own food. They have spots, and are not common outside of zoos.

The most commonly seen hyena is the spotted hyena. It is a [[scavenger]] that lives in the savannas of east [[Africa]]. Hyenas communicate by howling, which sounds like a laugh; for this reason, spotted hyenas are also called laughing hyenas.
