Abraham "Bram" Stoker was an author born in Dublin on November 8th 1847. Although in his lifetime, he wrote many novels and was a contributer to The Dublin Mail, an Irish newspaper, he is best remembered for his horror classic Dracula. Prior to starting work on Dracula, Stoker spent eight years researching European folklore and vampire myths and legends. Although he wrote other tales of the supernatural, none achieved the lasting fame of Dracula.
He died on April 20th 1912 and was cremated. His ashes are displayed at Golder's Green crematorium in London. In Whitby where much of Dracula is set, there is a commemorative seat overlooking the harbour named in his memory.
