Homeless People in the U.S. are defined as people who have no residence. They don't own their own homes, rent, or reside with relatives. They don't even have roommates: they're literally "on the street".
Before 1980, Homeless People were called street people. Female street people were called "bag ladies".
The Federal Government estimates around 350,000 homeless people - just over 0.1 percent. Activists generally use a highly inflated figure of around 3 million; see Mutant Statistics.
