The Fourth of July is an annual, American celebration of the Independence of the United States from Great Britain.
Everyone whose work is not vital (like nurses and police) takes a day or two off work, and people enjoy the summer weather with cookouts, get-togethers, and, at night, displays of fireworks and bonfires. Most towns hold parades, as well as usually sponsoring safe fireworks shows. Some people hold re-enactments of Revolutionary War era events.
The Flag and symbols of it are in evidence everywhere, in this annual outpouring of patriotism.
