Template:Stub Democratic Underground (often abbreviated "DU") is a far-left fringe website with a large discussion forum (which is primarily what is referred to when people mention the website). DU favors far-left opinions and often deletes posts and ban members that do not strictly adhere to them. This policy targets conservatives, obviously, but also moderate Democrats. As of February 2008, DU claims over 115,418 member registrations, but this number includes accounts that have never been used, accounts that have been long inactive and accounts which have been permanently banned. It is unclear exactly how many accounts are actually active and it is unlikely DU's administration will ever divulge that information, but amateur attempts to discover how many have resulted in estimates between 4,000 and 5,500 accounts.[1][2]
