Jiang Zemin succeeded Chinese dictator [[Deng Xiaoping]] when he died in 1997. Zemin refused to improve China’s record on human rights, and Christianity and whilst democracy still remains suppressed there there are one party elections now precipitated by the [[Tiananmen Square massacre]].
