Counselling is a therapeutic technique, involving listening to and advising people in distress.

Liberal interpretations of counselling involve the promotion of 'victim status' amongst those counselled, the encouragement of atheistic viewpoints, and the encouragement of dependency socialism. Liberal counsellors also actively discourage and attempt to censor conservative stances in counselling.

Conservative counselling aims to help the recipient by encouraging self-belief and self-help. Recipients are encouraged to seek and find inner strength through belief and trust in God, as the background for self-reliance and a taking of responsibility for ones own actions. It can frequently involve tough love programmes.
